Wednesday August 22

Morning: meet in the hotel lobby at 9:45am for a Tour of Local Artisans' Studios

  • Visit the wood carving studio of Tom Jacobson for a 'working' tour:
    Tom is a long time resident of Kamloops, B.C. He has been a student of birds and wildlife for over forty years. Each of his unique hand crafted creations reflects close observation of the study subjects in their natural environment. He exhibits in fine galleries across British Columbia.

  • Visit the studio/boutique of jewelry designer Charlene Hall: Charlene creates original 'one of a kind' pieces of jewelry... pendants, bracelets, ear rings. Her clients come from the four corners of the globe: Europe, Asia, Australia and the U.S.
Afternoon: Meet historian and adventurer Kevin Tessier in the hotel lobby at 1:30pm for a Voyageur Canoe Trip on McGillvary Lake*
  • Ride by bus, the 10 kilometers to the lake through pristine forest wilderness and view the regrowth following the major forest fires of 2004.

  • Enjoy 'stories' of Canada's early days... the adventures, the hardships... while paddling on beautiful McGillvary Lake. If you are lucky you may hear the call of the loon or see a rainbow trout jump from the pristine waters!

  • Return to the village by approximately 3:30pm

Thursday August 23

All Day Historic Walking Tour of Kamloops: Meet in the hotel lobby at 8:45am for the 45-minute drive to Kamloops through ranchlands and the famous North Thompson River Valley.

The Tour will include:

  • Historic buildings and stories of the pioneers who settled in the area. Maybe even an 'outlaw' story or two!

  • Museum and Art Gallery guided tours

  • Lunch at The Tea House
The tour will focus on architectural and family histories, beautiful restorations and colorful gardens. Pick up for return to Sun Peaks at 2:45pm. Arrive at the hotel approximately 3:30pm.



Friday August 24th

Option #1

Organized Alpine Hiking*: Meet in the hotel lobby at 10:45. Ride the Sunburst chairlift to the alpine. Group will split into two smaller groups:
  • One group will do a gentle walk through the mountain wild flowers and have lunch on top of the mountain

  • One group will ascend to 'top of the world' ...a fairly strenuous hike to the upper alpine with magnificent views in all directions! Lunch provided.
*Bring bottled water, particularly, if you are going on the more strenuous hike. Make sure you have close-toed, comfortable walking shoes, a sun hat, and sunscreen. The top of the mountain is about 2500 meters.

Option #2

Independent Activities at your leisure.

Sun Peaks Resort Activities Desk in Masas Day Lodge can arrange for you. Activities include: golf, tennis, mountain biking, canoeing, horseback riding, and fly-fishing.
